Fabiano & Sirén: Music in schools – USA vs. Finland

Michael Fabiano, who will be performing at the Turku Music Festival August 11, and the Festival foundation’s chairman, the MP Saara-Sofia Sirén, will talk at the Turku Main Library’s Studio about the role of music in the Finnish and American school system. The talk is in English. The talk is a part of Turku Music Festival’s series of lectures and panel discussions. In collaboration with the Turku City Library.
Michael Fabiano is one of today’s leading tenors and he performs regularly in opera houses around the USA and Europe. He is one of the founders of ArtSmart, a non-profit organisation that provides free voice lessons to students in public schools in underprivileged neighborhoods in the USA.
Fabiano will talk about ArtSmart, how it’s funded and about the results they now have. Saara-Sofia Sirén in return will talk about the Finnish school system, where music is traditionally part of the curriculum.
