Tenor TUOMAS KATAJALA is a graduate of the Sibelius Academy and went on to study in Rome and Amsterdam. In addition to his opera career, he has become known as a concert and oratorio soloist and a Lied recitalist. Recently, he has appeared as Tamino in The Magic Flute at Covent Garden in London, at Unter den Linden in Berlin and at the Opéra de Lille; as Count Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Komische Oper in Berlin and as the Helmsman in Der fliegende Holländer at the Finnish National Opera. He has performed Bach, Handel, Beethoven, Bruckner, Mahler and others at venues ranging from Avery Fisher Hall in New York to the Salle Pleyel in Paris and the Glyndebourne Festival. Highlights of the 2019–2020 season include Loge in Das Rheingold at the Finnish National Opera and the title role in Mozart’s Idomeneo in a production directed by Casper Holten at the Israel Opera.
