PETTERI IIVONEN was appointed 1st Leader with the Orchestra of the Opéra national de Paris in summer 2019, having held the same position with the Orchestra of the Finnish National Opera. His violin playing has attracted accolades because of his flawless technique (Il Gazzettino) and his sensitivity and meticulous phrasing (Helsingin Sanomat). Iivonen won 2nd prize at the Sibelius Violin Competition in 2010, being only the second Finn ever to win 2nd prize at that event.
Iivonen is a regular performer at chamber music festivals and also appears frequently as a soloist with distinguished orchestras (Israel Philharmonic, Montréal Symphony Orchestra, Rhineland-Palatinate State Orchestra, Orchestra of the Opéra national de Paris). He is a founding member of the Sibelius Piano Trio and received a Latin Grammy Awards nomination in the contemporary classical category for the group’s début disc.
