Mikko Luoma

Accordionist MIKKO LUOMA has given solo recitals, performed chamber music and appeared with orchestras in most European countries, in the USA and in China. He holds degrees from both the Sibelius Academy and the Trossingen University of Music in Germany, both with excellent marks, and following these he went on to study music analysis and contemporary music performance practice at the City University of New York on a Fulbright scholarship in 1997–1998.

Luoma performs repertoire ranging from early Baroque to the very latest. He collaborates closely with composers, as witness for instance the accordion concerto Spiriti by Jukka Tiensuu (which he premiered and recorded with the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra); he was also a founding member of the Plus Ensemble. He is currently employed as a Lecturer of Music at the Turku Arts Academy, teaching classical accordion performance, chamber music and history of music.
