MARTIN JAMES BARTLETT has attained worldwide fame as a pianist despite being only 23 years old. Having won the BBC’s Young Musician of the Year competition in 2014, he was invited to appear with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. In 2015, he made his début at the Proms, performing Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. While studying with Vanessa Latarche at the Royal College of Music, he reached the quarter-finals of the distinguished Van Cliburn competition in the USA in 2017.
Bartlett’s album of Bach and Liszt, released in 2019, has been widely praised particularly for his mature interpretations. Highlights of the 2019–2020 season include recitals at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Verbier festivals and a concert with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and Ryan Wigglesworth.
