KRISTIAN ATTILA is known as one of Finland’s most prominent Lied pianists, having collaborated with singers such as Tommi Hakala, Jorma Hynninen, Päivi Nisula, Jaakko Kortekangas and Gala El Hadid. In addition to performing in Europe, America and Japan, he is a Lecturer at the Department of Vocal Art and Opera at the Sibelius Academy and artistic director of the Savonlinna Music Academy.
Attila studied the piano with Margit Rahkonen at the Sibelius Academy and also studied composition. He has conducted chamber opera performances from the piano (e.g. on DVDs of the operas Nainen kuin jäätynyt shampanja [A woman like frozen champagne] and Vapauden vanki [Prisoner of freedom] by Ilkka Kuusisto). He has recorded solo songs by Toivo Kuula with Tommi Hakala and solo songs by Sibelius with Hakala and Pia Freund. In 2017, he collaborated with Pia Freund and actress Seela Sella in creating a production titled Tänä yönä en pelkää kulkea yli pimeän [This night I am not afraid to walk through the dark], which has been acclaimed by audiences around Finland ever since.
