Johannes Piirto


JOHANNES PIIRTO has performed at several festivals and with prominent Finnish orchestras. Being a prodigy, he was invited to perform at the Mikkeli Music Festival by Valeri Gergiev at the early age of 13. He has done well in competitions such as the International Maj Lind Piano Competition in 2011. He has studied at the Sibelius Academy and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.

In 2007, Piirto’s orchestral work Lumière received a prize in the Uuno Klami Composition Competition for young composers. He attracted wider attention at the inauguration of the Music Centre in Helsinki in 2011, where he premiered his work Virta. In 2019, Johannes Piirto performed with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Finnish National Opera Orchestra.
