Baritone AARNE PELKONEN is one of Finland’s most successful young opera and concert singers. He is a versatile musician who loves to wander between genres and eras. He attracted attention in Finland as winner of the Lappeenranta Singing Competition in 2013 and of the International Sibelius Singing Competition in 2015. Aarne is equally at home on an opera stage, in front of a grand piano, at a church concert or singing a Nocturne in the summer night, accompanying himself.
In the 2018–2019 season, Aarne made his début at the Finnish National Opera in the leading role in the opera Jää [Ice] by Jaakko Kuusisto. He was previously a permanently engaged soloist at the Oldenburg Opera, and he has made guest appearances in opera productions and as a concert soloist around Europe. In Finland, he has appeared with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Tapiola Sinfonietta, the Tampere Philharmonic, the Tapiola Choir and the YL Male Voice Choir.
