SENJA RUMMUKAINEN (b. 1994) won the Turku Cello Competition in 2014 and reached the finals in the Guilhermina Suggia Prize competition in Portugal in 2015. She has appeared as soloist with the Helsinki Philharmonic, the Turku Philharmonic and the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen. She regularly appears at music festivals, and as a member of a string trio she won a chamber music competition at the Norwegian Academy of Music in 2017.
Rummukainen began her masters degree studies with Jens-Peter Maintz at the University of the Arts in Berlin in autumn 2017, having previously studied at the East Helsinki Music Institute, the Sibelius Academy, the Folkwang University of the Arts and the Norwegian Music Academy. She was appointed 2nd Principal Cello of the Helsinki Philharmonic in 2017. Senja Rummukainen plays a Stefano Scarampella cello (1897) kindly lent to her by Jorma Panula.
