RISTO-MATTI MARIN (b. 1976) “has, gradually and without fuss, risen to the top rank of Finland’s pianists” (Risto Nordell / Suomen Kuvalehti, 11 October 2019). Marin’s repertoire extends from the core works of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras to contemporary music, including numerous rarities such as historical transcriptions. Marin completed a D.Mus. degree with honours at the Sibelius Academy in 2010. He has made numerous internationally acclaimed solo and chamber music recordings, besides recordings for the Finnish Broadcasting Company. In recitals, as an orchestra soloist and as a chamber musician (particularly with saxophonist Olli-Pekka Tuomisalo), Marin has premiered many contemporary works by leading Finnish composers. In recent years, he has been making premiere recordings of Finnish piano works. His two latest solo albums were nominated for the national Emma award for Best Classical Album, and Hidden Treasures was also ranked among the best discs of the year by both Helsingin Sanomat and Music Finland. Marin released his 13th solo album in early 2021, the fourth and final instalment in a series featuring the complete tone poems of Franz Liszt, in piano arrangements by his pupil August Stradal.
