Japanese pianist NAOKO SONODA is principally known for chamber music performances, as witness her prizes for best chamber music pianist at the Tchaikovsky Competition (2015, 2019) and the Lutosławski Cello Competition (2015, 2018). She has appeared as a soloist and performed chamber music with partners such as Santiago Cañón Valencia, Hartmut Rohde, Mark Gothóni, Danjulo Ishizaka, Jens-Peter Maintz and Andrei Ionita at prominent festivals and at venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, Carnegie Hall and the Mariinsky Theatre.
Sonoda studied with Yoko Okumura, Seiko Ezawa and Mikhail Voskresensky at the Toho Gakuen music school before going on to study with Rainer Becker at the University of the Arts Berlin. She has won several prizes in piano competitions, for instance in Argento, Trieste and Lódz.
