Joyce DiDonato

Born in Kansas in the USA, mezzosoprano JOYCE DiDONATO has been hugely successful in Baroque opera, Mozart and bel canto alike. Her recent roles include Dido in Les troyens by Berlioz at the Vienna State Opera, Sesto in Cendrillon by Massenet and Adalgisa in Norma by Bellini at the Metropolitan and the title role in Handel’s Agrippina on tour with the orchestra Il Pomo d’Oro and on stage at the Royal Opera House in London and at the Metropolitan Opera.

DiDonato has appeared in concert for instance in recitals at Carnegie Hall and at the Barbican in London, at the BBC’s Last Night of the Proms, with Sir Simon Rattle at the Berlin Philharmonie, and with Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Her extensive discography includes In War & Peace, which won the Gramophone Award for best recital album in 2017, and Les troyens, which won an International Opera Award, the BBC Music Magazine opera award and the Gramophone Recording of the Year award. Jake Heggie, writing in Gramophone magazine, describes “the staggering, joyful artistry of Joyce DiDonato”; when she sings, “the world is suddenly brighter”.
