Catalonian countertenor XAVIER SABATA is equally comfortable with both early and contemporary music. His recent successes include the title role in Rinaldo at the Handel Festival in Halle and at the Champs-Élysées in Paris as well as the world premiere of the opera Kaspar Hauser by Hans Thomalla. His discography includes solo albums such as ‘Catharsis’, a compilation of operatic rarities from the 18th century, and also several Handel operas such as Ottone, Alessandro and as the title character in Tamerlano. As a recitalist, his focus is on Lieder; he has performed Schubert’s Winterreise in Barcelona, for instance. In addition to voice, he has studied the saxophone and drama, and he used to be a stage and TV actor.
